| dc.description.abstract | La viruela constituyó durante siglos una de las enfermedades más temidas por la población. Sin embargo, paulatinamente durante el siglo XVIII despertó un mayor interés científico en los médicos por analizar y reflexionar sobre ésta y otras enfermedades, sus causas, tratamientos, medicinas y la forma de prevenirlas, produciéndose en la Corona políticas públicas para gestionar preventivamente el riesgo de contagio. Entretanto, en la Monarquía Hispana se iniciaba un proceso de cambios tendientes a redefinir las relaciones de poder en el entramado de poderes corporativos, dando paso al Gobierno directo y centralizado del monarca mediante actos de gobiernos dirigidos a la felicidad pública de los súbditos, que en el ámbito de la salud pública se tradujo en cómo la Corona reaccionó ante situaciones críticas, como fueron las epidemias de viruela en el marco de un sucesivo progreso científico. | |
| dc.description.abstracten | For centuries, smallpox was one of the most dreaded diseases among the population. However, during the eighteenth century, a greater scientific interest was observed among physicians in analyzing and reflecting on this and other diseases, their underlying causes, treatments, medicines and the way to prevent them. In response, the Crown introduced public policies aimed at managing the risk of contagion. Meanwhile, within the Hispanic Mo-narchy, a process of change was underway that sought to redefine power rela-tions within the context of corporate powers. This resulted in a shift towards a more direct and centralized form of governance of the monarch through acts of government, with the aim of promoting the collective happiness of the sub-jects, which in the field of public health derived into how the Crown reacted to critical situations, such as smallpox epidemics, within the context of ongoing scientific advancement. | |
