| dc.description.abstract | The article carries out a critical analysis of the translation of the Mapuche subject's discourse in the ethnographic work Las ultimas familias y costumbres araucanas by Tomas Guevara, a school teacher who has studied the Mapuche people. In this case, the practice of translation contributes to generating representations that uproot and distort the Mapuche people and their culture, in a context marked by the glorification of scientific rationality and of the ideological tenets that guide the project of the republic. The text analyzed is a significant expression of the interaction among diverse cultural matrixes, which helps understand the complex and shattered historicity of a border territory such as the Araucania region. | |
