dc.description.abstract | After leading a coup d'Etat, Prince Alexandru Joan Cum prompted the first agrarian reform of Romania in 1864. The move was accompanied by a previous monastic land confiscation and a subsequence distribution of land among the peasantry, which meant the fall of the Former Regimen in the Carpathian country. Nevertheless, the reform did not really emancipated the peasantry of its dependency, however the law deepened into its difficulties and consolidated the dominance of the traditional oligarchy in the countryside. | |
