Abstract
Between April 2009 and January 2010, we evaluated the gonadal cycle, the biochemical composition (glucose, glycogen, lipids, proteins and total energy) and the relationship between these, in female Thais chocolata collected at two locations in the region of Antofagasta, Northern de Chile (Caleta Punta Arena and La Rinconada Marine Reserve). The results indicate high percentages of mature females in the months of August 2009 in the case of Caleta Punta Arenas and January 2010 in the Marine Reserve of La Rinconada. While the biochemical composition revealed a high prevalence of lipid and protein components associated with the complex gland-gonad and foot muscle. Significant correlations between the states of vitellogenesis and glucose and glycogen content in both locations were studied, which suggests the use and storage of these components as part of the process of female gametogenic Thais chocolata in northern Chile and its importance in generating food reserves for the development of the reproductive process of this mollusk
