Abstract
In the last 70 years, the studies on language acquisition have gained special importance within linguistics, which has been evidenced through the emergence of different theories which have tried to explain this process under different prisms. Nowadays there is a relatively wide consensus that no theory can explain something that complex and multifactorial as the acquisition of the mother tongue. However, today only 1% of the world's languages has been documented, which is why the study of acquisition and development of aboriginal languages is even more seldom. The following literature review presents the research done on the Mapuzungun language and it shows that those studies have focused only on later steps of the acquisition process.
