dc.description.abstractCurrent production of Chilean urban space is heavily conditioned by the performance of the real estate market and State's flexibility with building regulations. From this scenario, in the last decades it is possible to observe important problems of residential segregation in main Chilean cities, which aggravates the possibilities of encounters between different groups. Although the theme of social urban relationships has been addressed by many studies, it is clear that the great majority use traditional indicators of residential segregation, avoiding the determinants that make up class position in urban spaces. The present paper describes the processes of socio-spatial mixing in Temuco, one of Chile's intermediate cities with the greatest population growth in the last time. Considering people's occupational dimensions in the labour market, which theoretically constitute the notion of social class, level and type of social relationships in different areas of the city are compared during the intercensal period 1992-2017. Combining descriptive and exploratory statistical analysis and using the area and censorial entity as a territorial unit, the results indicate an extension of social mixing in large areas, and a consolidation of the highest classes at the west side of the city. Finally, and as shown in this article, the most favoured groups have grown apart from middle and low classes over time.
dc.description.abstractLa producción actual del espacio urbano chileno está fuertemente condicionada por el actuar del mercado inmobiliario y la flexibilización que el Estado hace de las normativas de edificación. A partir de este escenario, en las últimas décadas es posible observar importantes problemas de segregación residencial en las principales ciudades chilenas, lo que agrava las posibilidades de encuentro entre distintos grupos sociales. Si bien el tema de las relaciones sociales en las ciudades ha sido abordado por numerosos estudios, lo cierto es que la gran mayoría utiliza los indicadores tradicionales de segregación residencial, obviando con ello los determinantes que configuran la posición de clase en los espacios urbanos. El presente trabajo describe los procesos de mixturación socioespacial en Temuco, una de las ciudades intermedias de Chile con mayor crecimiento poblacional en el último tiempo. Considerando las dimensiones ocupacionales de las personas en el mercado laboral —que teóricamente están en la base de la noción de clase social— se comparan el nivel y tipo de relaciones sociales en distintas zonas de la ciudad durante el periodo intercensal 1992-2017. Combinando análisis estadísticos descriptivos y exploratorios, y utilizando la zona y entidad censal como unidad territorial, los resultados indican una ampliación de la mixturación social en extensas áreas, y una consolidación de las clases más altas en el poniente de la ciudad. Finalmente, y como constata este artículo, los grupos más favorecidos se han distanciado con el tiempo de las clases medias y bajas.
