dc.description.abstractEl artículo expone resultados de investigación que dan cuenta de la construcción de significados y expectativas de madres mapuches de La Araucanía, Chile, respecto a la educación escolar rural que cursaron y que hoy reciben sus hijos y nietos. La metodología es cualitativa, se entrevistaron a seis madres mapuches quienes vivieron procesos de escolarización y que envían a sus hijos y nietos a la misma escuela. Los datos se analizaron a través del análisis de contenido a fin de identificar los sentidos explícitos y latentes que han construido las madres en torno a su experiencia. Los principales resultados dan cuenta que las madres mapuches tienen recuerdos de experiencias traumáticas en su proceso de escolarización, sustentadas en el castigo físico y simbólico. Sin embargo, deciden continuar enviando a sus hijos y nietos a esos mismos espacios áulicos con la esperanza que puedan lograr un mejor devenir económico. Asimismo, tienen la esperanza que a mayor educación tendrán una relación de respeto y valoración de su ser mapuche en la sociedad. Concluimos, que históricamente la educación escolar se ha caracterizado por ser una escuela opresora y castigadora que en la actualidad ha buscado su transformación bajo un discurso de relaciones de respeto y de valoración de la diversidad social y cultural.
dc.description.abstractenThe article presents research results that account for the construction of meanings and expectations of Mapuche mothers from La Araucan & iacute;a, Chile, regarding the rural school education they attended and that their children and grandchildren receive today. The methodology is qualitative, six Mapuche mothers who experienced schooling processes and who send their children and grandchildren to the same school were interviewed. The data were analyzed through content analysis in order to identify the explicit and latent meanings that the mothers have constructed around their experience. The main results show that Mapuche mothers have memories of traumatic experiences in their schooling process, supported by physical and symbolic punishment. However, they decide to continue sending their children and grandchildren to those same classroom spaces in the hope that they can achieve a better economic future. Likewise, they hope that with more education they will have a relationship of respect and appreciation of their Mapuche being in society. We conclude that historically school education has been characterized as an oppressive and punishing school that has currently sought its transformation under a discourse of relationships of respect and appreciation of social and cultural diversity.
