Abstract
In this paper we present the results of a learning experience aimed at promoting a benefit for the community. This experience was carried out by a sociology course at the Catholic University of Temuco (Chile) in the first semester of 2017. The process consisted in generating links between civil society organizations from a project financed by the Ministry of the Environment and executed by the Action Network for Environmental Rights (RADA), for the promotion and generation of recycling practices and solid waste management in a neighborhood of the city of Temuco. However, during this process we became a research group that, in its access to the field, was faced with complex realities and marked by the reality and precariousness of aging in older women in the framework of the exercise of neoliberal policies for the protection and social security. Here we present some of the experiences, reflections and lessons learned by the course, in order to generate a process of debate about the possibilities of learning centered on practical exercises of public and critical orientation.
